There are moments in life when we pray for something with all our hearts, only to watch the door close in front of us. A job doesn’t work out. A relationship ends. A plan we were certain about suddenly changes. And in those moments, it can be easy to wonder, “God, why didn’t You answer my prayer?”
But what if the answer wasn’t really “no”?
What if God was redirecting you?
Faith doesn’t always mean knowing exactly where the road will lead. Sometimes, it means trusting God when the path looks completely different from what you imagined. A closed door can feel like disappointment in the moment, but later, we may realize that it protected us from something we couldn’t see or moved us toward something we weren’t ready to recognize.
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5–6 to trust in the Lord rather than relying only on our own understanding, promising that He will make our paths straight. That message is especially meaningful during seasons when everything feels uncertain. We may not understand why something happened, but we can still believe that our story is not out of God’s hands.
For many Black Christians, faith has long been more than something practiced on Sunday. It has been a source of strength through uncertainty, loss, injustice, family struggles, and generations of change. The image of Black Jesus can carry that same feeling of closeness and representation: Christ not as a distant figure, but as someone people can imagine walking beside them through the realities of everyday life.
That is why an image of Black Jesus can be more than artwork on a wall. It can become a reminder in the middle of an ordinary day: You are not walking this road alone.
Maybe the opportunity you lost was not the end of your story. Maybe the relationship that ended created space for healing. Maybe the season that feels confusing right now is preparing you for something you cannot see yet.
You don't have to understand every turn to keep moving forward.
Sometimes faith is simply saying, “God, I don't know where You're taking me, but I trust You enough to follow.”
And perhaps one day, when you look back, you’ll realize that the closed door you once prayed against was the very thing that redirected you toward where you were meant to be.
Maybe God isn’t saying no. Maybe He’s redirecting you.
Let that be your reminder today: keep praying, keep believing, and keep walking.
